Well first, you
have to know how to use the oils correctly. That is, you don’t want to use a
heavy, sealing oil as a pre-poo treatment. This closes the hair cuticles,
causing them to resist moisture, and can also clog your scalp. These oils are best
when used as a part of your LOC/LCO method. For a hot-oil treatment you need to
use a lighter oil that penetrates the hair shaft, also known as a moisturizing
oil.
1.
Olive
Oil:
MOISTURIZING OIL. This oil is super moisturizing and works great as a pre-poo/hot-oil
treatment. It helps to strengthen (reducing breakage and split ends), fights
frizz, and softens, as well as adds shine. This is also effective as a sealant.
2.
Grapeseed
Oil:
SEALING OIL. This is a light oil, so it could also be used as a moisturizing
oil. Grapeseed oil strengthens and adds volume as well as shine.
3.
Argan
Oil:
MOISTURIZING OIL. Argan oil is widely used in almost every hair and beauty
brand. It’s an effective moisturizer, as well as a sealant! This oil smooths
the cuticle and increases elasticity.
4.
Almond
Oil:
SEALING OIL. Almond oil- that is, sweet
almond oil- is high in Vitamin E as well as B vitamins. This is a very
versatile and light oil, so it could also be used in a hot-oil treatment. This
oil strengthens and promotes hair growth, adds shine, and smooths the hair
cuticles, sealing in moisture.
Recap: Olive oil
fights frizz, Grapeseed oil strengthens, Argan oil increases elasticity, and
Almond oil promotes healthy hair growth. These four oils are very beneficial to
Type 4 hair, and other hair types. Whether you have Type 4 hair or not, try
adding these oils to your regimen.
